With out realizing it, I burst out laughing, because my grandson Appu was crying terrified. Meanwhile he was trying to pull himself away from our pet calf Nandini who had lost her mother Lakshmi on the very day of her birth. Nandini was pushing her head especially her open mouth to the middle portion of Appu's body.
Nandini thrusting forward with her open mouth. Appu terrified at the persistant move of the calf towards his private part. The sharp piercing cries was not deterring the calf from her target. The moment I saw the two this way, luckily I got the point and that was why I burst out laughing.
Since Nandini's mother was no more, she was fed diluted cow-milk from another cow, Gowri. The diluted cow milk was put in an ordinary feeding bottle with rubber nipple.
Appu was a" hot blooded" boy, four years old . He enjoyed walking completely naked for the slightest reason. If he wanted to go to the toilet which was not inside the house in rural villages of our type, he wouldl announce it and remove his shots and shirt. Then he wouldl not go to the village-type toilet immediately. He would walk and run around with out any dress on his body. If questioned or reprimanded he would immediately say " Yes I know. But I have to go to the toilet."
Now this time Appu was moving around the coconut- arecanut-plantain garden at the back of our house, having direct ventilation to his skin. Nandini was always very eager to drink milk through the nipple of the feeding bottle like any other motherless pampered child. Nobody, knowing the circumstances,would be so hard-hearted as to blame Nandini for mistaking Appu's signal male organ for the nipple of the feeding bottle. That was why she was single mindedly pushing herself forward with a fixity of purpose underandable here in this context.
And it put me in a dilemma: to laugh a laugh of the kind made available here or to save Appu, my dear grandson!
